Erin is a Louisville native and lifelong mover. She began dancing at the age of 2 and hasn’t stopped since! Trained and teaching in many dance styles, her favorite is modern dance as she has choreographed and performed locally with Moving Collective and Vandivier-Ford Dance Company. She graduated from the University of Louisville in 2013 before moving to Washington, DC and earning an M.A. in Arts Management from American University in 2015.

Upon her return to Louisville, she found Bend and Zen and never looked back! Erin quickly became a studio lizard heat-seeker and was a fast learner because of her dance background before graduating from the Bend and Zen 200-Hour Teacher Training in February of 2017.

Erin sees yoga as an art form to be practiced in everyday life and will always be a student before an instructor. She loves customizing classes so never be shy to request your favorite poses or intentions! In addition to being a proud dance alumna of The Kentucky Center Governor’s School for the Arts, she now serves as it’s Program Manager, stewarding over 250 students through their life-changing arts journey every summer. In her free time, Erin hangs with her husband Shane and Corgi mix pup, Jango, and expects a new addition to the Quinlan family in early October!

Monica Johnson

Monica began practicing in 1999 with videos at home. Never a physically flexible or strong woman, she found Bikram Yoga in 2001. It was love. She began study under a well-respected Bikram yoga expert in 2002 and quickly learned the Bikram style of teaching. In 2003, she expanded her study to Yoga East to gain knowledge beyond the Bikram series along with yoga history and the eight-fold path. Monica trained in hatha, vinyasa, restorative, yin, ashtanga, meditation, pranayama, bandhas and yoga for injuries.
 

In 2005 Monica received special recognition for her project 'Teaching Yoga to the Paraplegic and the Subtle Body'. Monica says she was blessed to work closely with Matthew Sanford, a paraplegic Iyengar teacher, to gain more insights into teaching a student with paralysis. After witnessing the amazing power of mind over matter she knew she wanted to learn even more about the body and the disease process to better inform her teaching. She plunged into nursing school to get anatomy, physiology and the disease process knowledge. She is now an R.N. and works part time in home health.

 

Monica's training and experience have enabled her to lead workshops for 'bad backs', along with teaching at a variety of studios and health care facilities across Louisville. She teaches to all body types including triathletes, paraplegics, stroke patients, post operative spinal surgeries, pregnant women and students with MS. Monica firmly believes yoga can and does benefit everyone regardless of physical limitations. She also practices Thai and yoga inspired assisted stretching to alleviate chronic pain and physical issues.

 

Monica is certified in Reiki as well and practicing this healing energy work in private sessions. Monica has volunteered at The Safe Place to teach children and teenagers and witnessed first hand just how calming Vipariti Karani (legs up the wall) can be to rambunctious and challenged teens!

 

Monica has had the privilege to study alongside Ramanand Patel, Doug Swenson, David Swenson, Bryan Kest, Darren Rhodes, Francois Raoult, Bea Raydo, Michael Mukti Buck and Laura Spalding.

 

In 2013 she left the studio environment to focus on her small private yoga community to truly experience Kula and Sangha. She's been leading a small group of donation-based yoga out of her home for 8 years. Monica says she's excited to dip her toes back into a studio environment that imbibes the yogic path.

 

Monica’s love of yoga is evident and she prides herself on being a student, working to constantly learn and evolve. She, like you, is simply a student but decided to share that love of yoga with others. She currently practices Bikram, Vinyasa, Restorative, Yoga Nidra and Yin.

 

Monica currently teaches our Bikram classes.

 

Paloma Thacker

Instructor - Yoga Core
400 RYT

Paloma is an avid yoga enthusiast, practitioner and teacher along with running a yoga blog HerBendyLife.com as a way to share her passion for all things yoga.  Paloma is 400 Hr certified in two different styles of yoga, Hot Vinyasa and Hot 26.  Paloma’s teaching emphasizes proper alignment, allowing students to achieve the full therapeutic benefits of yoga.  She believes in adapting postures to each students' ability (whether beginner or advanced) and that students should only go as far as accessible for their unique body.  Paloma took her practice to new heights in 2016 when she placed 1st in the Yoga Federation’s Regional Competition, which qualified her to compete in the 2016 National Yoga Championship where she placed 9th!  She is a certified coach with USA Yoga and offers private coaching.  Paloma lives in Louisville, Kentucky with her husband George, baby girl Harlowe, stepson Will, and her Pug Piper.

Jessie Schook

Instructor - Yoga HIIT

Jessie is a Louisville native who first found yoga while living in Spain. She completed her teacher training in 2015 at Corepower Yoga in Chicago. When she is not on her mat you can find her working at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana, spending time with her cats and fiancé and surveying pizzas and beers with dedication and commitment!  Jessie’s yoga philosophy is that yoga should be fun. It should make you smile and you should always leave feeling empowered. Her personal catch phrase for life is “Shoulda gone to yoga!” -to the tune of “Shoulda had a V8.” She enjoys making her students smile and laugh. Most of her regulars know when she has been watching Instagram again. Jessie is committed to keeping her classes fresh and unique. Expect to experiment and explore funky transitions and interesting variations of poses.  Jessie always strives to make sure there is something for everyone, whether today is a ‘child’s pose every other posture’ kind of day, or a ‘handstand in between every posture’ kind of day you will leave feeling strong and powerful!

This dynamic and energizing practice integrates a flowing series of postures to create internal heat as you increase strength, flexibility, balance and endurance. Our Power Vinyasa will take you through a vigorous and detoxifying sequence emphasizing conscious breath and fluid movement to strengthen the body and calm the mind. Open to all levels but best for those comfortable with the basic yoga postures and those looking for a healthy sweat.
